The Adventure Begins

Recently, one of my friends suggested that we "tour" some of the famous barbecue joints in Texas.  He extended this offer to 2 other guys that we are good friends with.  Several conversations on how this "tour" should be organized followed and in one of those conversations a gentleman who is not going to be traveling with us requested that we blog the adventure.

Since one of the requirements that it seems to me a person needs to blog is the willingness to ramble on in the written form and I've been accused on more than one occasion of having this "gift", I figured I met the minimum requirements.  So now let the "stream of consciousness" flow and see how this comes out.

To begin with, here is a little introduction to the Compadres.

Kirt is the originator of this little adventure and it is one of his many "interesting" ideas.  Kirt also serves as our "Poor Man's Fodor".  If you are looking for a place to eat that is cheap, has good food, with plentiful portions, & you really don't care about the ambiance (in fact, table cloths are a negative) - then Kirt is your man.  Some of the best food I have eaten have been places Kirt has recommended.  Between his almost mystical control over his kids (and ours) and his legendary negotiation skills - he is an inspiration to the rest of the Compadres.

Tim is always good for an excellent story.  Whether it is from one of his escapades as a young Cajun, or one of the shenanigans that his boys are always engaged in - we can count on Tim to tell a good story.  When you here the "Duuuuude" at the start of a sentence, you know that the story that follows is always worth a chuckle or two.  One of Tim's more famous quotes is "With two kids, you can play one on one easy.  But when you have more than two, you HAVE to move to a zone defense."  I've always gotten a kick out of Tim's basketball wisdom in terms of raising kids.

Greg is our official beer snob.  In most instances he will take quality over quantity, however he has been known to stoop to "Free & Cold" when all else fails.  Greg's recommendation on beer has never steered us wrong and where Kirt is the acknowledge Food expert - we always recognize Greg as the expert in all things Hops & Grains.  It takes a lot to get Greg to "twist off" and the things he takes in stride absolutely amaze me on a regular basis.  Whether its a boy grabbing the blade of a knife while carving pumpkins or doing minor surgery on a Compadre in the field - Greg's always calm and ready for whatever get's thrown his way.  An excellent example of the therapeutic quality of regular beer consuption.

That leaves me.  I'm sure the rest of Compadres will have ample suggestions for this descriptions and maybe we can get them to leave their thoughts at some time.  But in general, I like to think of myself is "a bit more excitable" then the rest and I'm sure they get a kick out of my reactions to some of the folks and situations we have encountered together.  I'm also proud of the amount of "volunteerism" that I have had the opportunity to share with them and have been know to instigate more than one "situation" on my own.  And finally, I have been accused on more than one occasion of being a bit of a smart aleck.  Something I simply do not understand.

Well, this is the end of my very first blog post and depending up the reactions from the rest of Compadres - hopefully there will be more.
